The Greek market has been in step with global retail habits for quite a few years now. Black Friday and Cyber Monday have both found their place in the annual calendar of businesses and in the budgets of consumers. Neither professionals nor shoppers need an introduction to them.
As these days became a fixed part of the commercial year they brought with them the need to advertise the offers. As we approach the end of November, advertising campaigns unfold across every available channel. Online in particular social media gets flooded with commercial content for these days. Consumers may shop online often but they live in the physical world. That is where they commute, work and go out. And very often that is where they shop.
This is exactly the competitive advantage of outdoor advertising. It is where the consumer lives. Imagine a shopper walking down one of Athens’ main shopping streets on Black Friday ready to buy. Just before stepping into a store or a department store they come across an outdoor ad from a brand with a clear offer message. That is the last message to stay in their mind before they make a purchase and that is the power of outdoor advertising in this new era.
OOH Knows Where the City Moves
The Location Intelligence Study (LIS) combines data from three independent sources: two providers of vehicle and pedestrian mobility data in other words location data and one geospatial analytics platform creating a complete set of OOH metrics.
This way advertisers know how many people each location reaches (Total Reach and Unique Reach), how many times they come into contact with the message (Impressions and Frequency) and which age groups they belong to (Age Distribution). They can then choose the locations that gather the audience they care about compare different scenarios before the campaign and measure the results once it ends. In a period like Black Friday when every euro of the advertising budget has to deliver, this knowledge makes all the difference.

Right Next to the Point of Sale (POS)
Outdoor advertising sites are already where the market lives and breathes. In front of stores and department stores, on busy shopping streets, at bus stops serving the city’s shopping districts. This means the brand’s message doesn’t reach consumers at some random moment of the day but at the moment they are already in a buying mood just a few steps from the store entrance.

The New Reality of Outdoor Advertising: Real Time Offers
The rise of digital outdoor advertising (DOOH) gives advertisers flexibility. Their creative can change as the campaign unfolds. They can launch awareness messages in the first days continue with an announcement that the offers have started and roll out fresh creatives to boost conversions just before the day ends, for example a countdown to the close of the offers.
Politis Group’s digital screen network in Greece and Cyprus gives brands exactly this ability. To adapt their creative not only from one day to the next but within the same day depending on what their campaign needs.
Companies have already taken advantage of the network’s capabilities building dynamic campaigns with different offers each day. Last Black Friday for example, Aegean used the Politis Group network to showcase different offers throughout Black Friday week. The campaign started with creatives that highlighted the flash sales. Then it changed every day counting down to Black Friday. This ever changing presentation of offers built around a countdown leading up to Black Friday kept audience’s interest alive all week long and helped Aegean’s campaign stand out.

Black Friday Shoppers Engage with Outdoor Advertising
Data from the United Kingdom a market where Black Friday has been established for years shows how strongly shoppers respond to outdoor advertising during this period. According to TGI data presented by Alight Media more than 1 in 4 adults bought something on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. Compared to the general population, these shoppers are:
- 83% more likely to share content about an OOH ad on social media
- 72% more likely to download an app after seeing it in an OOH ad
- 67% more likely to buy a product or service online after seeing an OOH ad
- 67% more likely to talk to friends about an OOH ad they saw
- 60% more likely to visit a store to buy the product
Black Friday shoppers don’t stop at simply seeing outdoor advertising. They act on it online in store and on social media. According to Alight Media wider industry research confirms this as up to 74 to 79% of people take some kind of action after seeing an OOH ad such as a search, a website visit or a social media follow. This is exactly the bridge a brand needs on a weekend of offers when the final purchase may happen on a phone just minutes after someone walks past a poster.

From the Street to the Online Cart
The opportunity isn’t limited to physical stores. According to Adobe Digital Insights data presented by OOH International consumers in the United Kingdom spent £1.16 billion online on Black Friday 2025 the biggest online shopping day of the year and another £3.8 billion over the entire Cyber Weekend.
For brands the role of OOH is crucial. Outdoor advertising is a channel that can build awareness in the physical world and make an offer memorable. In other words, it creates the conditions a brand and its offer need to stand out and stay in the consumer’s memory among the countless ads flooding their feed.

The Battle for Attention
As Black Friday draws closer the competition for consumer attention will only intensify. Email marketing, Google Ads, social media ads and ideas for viral video campaigns will all compete to be the message that stays in the consumer’s mind until they walk through the door of the store where they’ll shop. Outdoor advertising by its very nature, is already at the store entrance. It meets people where they actually are and it is often the last message they see before they buy.
